2000-030 - DocuScope: Tool for Analyzing/Visualizing Written Texts
Abstract
The invention consists of a specialized phrasal, visual interface and pedagogical environment representing an innovative curriculum for teaching writing. The paper recognizes phrasal patterns of English, patterns authored by David Kaufer. We call this the Dimensions of Writing Environment and it helps student writers learn to associate textual content and textural function. The systematic association of function/content relationships is one of the central skills needed to learn hoe to write. Yet, to date, there has been no software available to support this learning in any direct fashion.
