2022-253 - ClueWeb22 dataset

Abstract

ClueWeb22 is the newest in the Lemur Project's ClueWeb line of datasets that support research
on information retrieval, natural language processing and related human language technologies.
This new dataset was developed by the Lemur Project with significant assistance and support
from Microsoft Corporation. ClueWeb22 is available for research purposes only.

ClueWeb22 has several novel characteristics compared with earlier ClueWeb datasets.

2021-293 Task-Centric Browser Tab Management System

Abstract

The Task-Based Web Browser system helps users move from managing dozens of scattered tabs to managing a small number of clear tasks that actually reflect what they’re trying to get done. Instead of treating each tab as an isolated page, it lets you bundle related tabs into a task, save that bundle, close the tabs, and later reopen the whole task in one step with your scroll positions and context restored. It’s AI for your inbox.

2022-069 Real-Time ML Surrogate for Spatter Mapping and Build Optimization in L-PBF

Benefit

This technology is a fast-response machine learning surrogate model for predicting spatter transport and contamination in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing. The innovation combines gradient-boosted random forest modeling with custom loss functions, trained on computational fluid dynamics (CFD-DPM) simulations, to accurately and rapidly forecast where spatter particles will land during the printing process. The button pops up sub-menus of objects which did or didn't do something recently and the actions they did or didn't perform. 2025-268 ARCADE: Codon Optimization through AI-Driven Activation Engineering

Abstract

A codon sequence is a set of three-letter “codes” in DNA or RNA that tells cells which amino acids to link together to make proteins. mRNA (messenger RNA) is a type of molecule that carries these instructions from DNA to the cell’s protein-making machinery. Designing codon sequences carefully can change how efficiently and accurately proteins are made, which is important for areas like vaccines and gene therapy.

Smart spaces and the internet of things rely on robust sensing of the environment, achieved by upgrading a space with expensive smart devices that do not talk to one another or tagging devices/rooms with after-market sensors. The latter is more flexible and intelligent but can be socially and aesthetically intrusive. 2023-224 - 3D MXene Network on Porous Backbones for High-Performance Energy Storage

Benefit

1. Exceptional electrochemical performance and conductivity: The MX-PS system exhibits outstanding areal capacitance, energy density, and high conductivity, making it suitable for high-performance energy storage and other applications. The developed technology’s primary strength lies in its ability to offer precise control and modularity which enables fine tuning the layering and density of DNA origami nanorods on cellular plasma membranes, ensuring tailored protection and manipulation of cells for specific applications and environments. Another standout feature is its ability to modulate cell biomechanics by enhancing membrane stiffness and reducing lipid fluidity, thereby bolstering cell viability and resilience against mechanical str...

2022-026 - 3D Freeform Printing of Ice as Sacrificial Templates for Rapid Additive Manufacturing
<caseId>2022-026</caseId>

2022-026 - 3D Freeform Printing of Ice as Sacrificial Templates for Rapid Additive Manufacturing

Abstract

Recent advancements in 3D printing technology have allowed the rapid fabrication of functional parts with complex geometries. Despite this progress, significant challenges remain in printing parts with precise internal features that span multiple length scales, as required for biomedical and medical devices, industrial components, artistic products, and other applications. The traditional 3D printing process involves printing the positive geometry. Although this approach works well for ...

Generating SOAP Notes from Doctor-Patient Conversations and predicting Chief Complaints
<caseId>2021-002</caseId>

Abstract

Following each patient visit, physicians draft long semi-structured clinical summaries called SOAP notes and contained in an Electronic Health Records (EHR) . While the SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) notes are undoubtedly invaluable to clinicians and researchers, creating digital SOAP notes is burdensome and time consuming. Abstract

The system described herein provides a small, low- powered and low-cost ElT sensor that could be integrated into wearable devices, such as but not limited to smartwatches. This ability to non-invasively look inside a user's body presents interesting application possibilities. For example, muscles change their cross-sectional shape and impedance distribution when flexed. Therefore, in one example embodiment, the EIT sensor was used for gesture recognition. 2018-258 Actitouch: Robust Touch Detection for On-Skin AR/VR Interfaces

Abstract

ActiTouch enables precise, low-latency touch segmentation by using the body as an RF waveguide. Users need only wear one wristband emitter (e.g., smartwatchs) and a head-worn receiver (e.g., AR/VR headsets). When a user touches the other arm, a circuit path is formed, which also increases airborne RF radiation. This path can be used as a touch detection mechanism.

Today we are seeing more of an emergence of legged robots, and especially bipedal robot technology. These robots have the possibility to traverse difficult terrain that wheeled or tracked robots could not. However, current bipedal robots are large and typically designed to need a large amount of sensing, actuation, and control. Some of the more elegant and modern bipedal robots that use torque control still need to be powered and command actuators to stand upright.

Abstract

Acid mine drainage (AMD) is a pervasive source of metal pollution that severely impacts freshwater ecosystems and has a direct impact on human health. Star polymers were developed with a poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) core and temperature-responsive poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPAm) shell. The core is negatively charged and can be loaded with a significant amount (~0.5g/g) of positively charged molecules (e.g. antibiotics with amine functional groups). The polymers are readily taken up into plants upon foliar application, translocated to different parts of the plant. We are introducing a new polymer substrate with magnetic properties. Small magnetic particles embedded inside an elastomer create a unique surrounding magnetic field. When the elastomer substrate is deformed, the magnetic particles change position and modify the surrounding magnetic field accordingly.
